Switzerland supports medical education reform in Kyrgyzstan

On March 15, 2022, the Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Beishenaliev received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to the Kyrgyz Republic Olivier Bangerter.

The meeting was also attended by Elvira Muratalieva, Senior Coordinator of Education Projects at the Embassy of Switzerland in Kyrgyzstan.

The parties discussed cooperation in the field of reforming medical education in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Representatives of the Embassy spoke about the final phase of the project "Reforms of Medical Education in the Kyrgyz Republic", which is being implemented with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic.

In particular, it was noted that within the framework of the project, together with the Ministry, new curricula for nursing education were developed, which are planned to be introduced in 4 pilot colleges from September this year, in connection with which, it is necessary to consider the possibility of extending the curriculum to other medical professional educational organizations of the Kyrgyz Republic and monitoring and evaluating the results of the project.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic for the contribution made to the healthcare sector of the Kyrgyz Republic and announced the readiness of the Ministry upon completion of the project to jointly monitor and evaluate the quality of the implementation of medical training programs. The Minister also said that, depending on the results of the monitoring, the Ministry will consider the possibility of distributing the new curriculum in other medical educational organizations of the Kyrgyz Republic.
